A shocking domestic abuse case in South Korea has drawn public outrage as a 40-year-old announcer has been arrested after her teenage daughter was found dead with extensive bruising across her body.
On October 1, JTBC’s 사건반장 reported that the woman, identified as A, was taken into custody on charges of fatal child abuse and abandonment (유기치사).
According to authorities, the incident occurred on September 22 around 4:30 PM, when A transported her daughter B to a hospital in Jinju. She told medical staff: “I came back from work and found my daughter unconscious in the car, so I brought her to the hospital.”

However, doctors immediately noticed that the victim’s body was covered with severe bruises, consistent with blunt-force trauma. Suspecting foul play, the hospital alerted police, which led to A’s arrest.
Mother and daughter had reportedly traveled to Namhae a day earlier to participate in a local fire drill event organized by the Namhae Fire Department. Following the daughter’s death, investigators began reconstructing the timeline, focusing on whether the abuse occurred during or after the trip.
It has since been revealed that A was well-known in Jinju as an announcer, singer, and local ambassador. However, in light of the charges, she has been stripped of her honorary ambassador position.
The case has left many shocked, particularly given A’s public image as a media personality. Social media reactions highlight grief and anger, with calls for stricter punishment in cases of child abuse.
Police are continuing their investigation to determine the extent of the abuse and the precise cause of the teenager’s death.
