Super Junior’s Siwon has broken his silence following growing backlash over his Instagram tribute to the late American conservative activist Charlie Kirk.
Last week, Siwon shared Instagram stories mourning Kirk’s sudden death, quoting from the Bible’s Parable of the Talents: “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Many netizens, however, criticized him for publicly honoring Kirk, who was a polarizing figure in U.S. politics and widely accused of spreading intolerance and election misinformation.
Facing mounting criticism, Siwon later clarified his intentions on Bubble. He explained that his post was not about politics but rather about the tragedy of Kirk’s passing: “Regardless of political beliefs, losing one’s life in front of countless college students is a heartbreaking tragedy. He was a Christian, a husband, and a father. That is why I mourned him. I felt my heart had already been conveyed, so I removed the post.”
Despite his explanation, the backlash has continued. Some fans have even demanded his removal from Super Junior, with one Instagram account, @siwon\ out, dedicating dozens of posts to criticizing him. The account’s bio reads, “Siwon Choi holds hands with genocidal war criminals. He should not be representing Super Junior. #Siwon\ OUT.”
Surprisingly, Siwon directly responded to one of these posts by commenting “I LOVE YOU.” While his reply has been liked over 500 times, it drew mixed reactions. Many netizens expressed disappointment, viewing his comment as dismissive, while others defended him against what they see as excessive hostility.
Even as criticism spreads online, Siwon has continued to receive support from a segment of fans who argue that his words were misunderstood and that his intentions were purely rooted in compassion.
