BTS‘s V has made a heartfelt plea to fans regarding airport safety, sparking conversations across global fandoms. During a Weverse live broadcast on July 28, the singer candidly addressed the chaos caused by disorderly crowds at airports and proposed a solution rooted in BTS history — the revival of the “Purple Line” project.
“I want to strike poses at the airport photo line, but it’s hard due to safety issues. The airport isn’t ours,” V stated. “If ARMY can bring back the Purple Line and keep things safe and orderly, I could even wear a suit.”
His comment refers to the fan-initiated “Purple Line” campaign that began in 2018 at LAX, where about 20 BTS fans created a quiet, symbolic barricade using purple ribbons, guiding members safely through crowds. The practice quickly spread to other countries and became a cultural symbol of fan etiquette.
However, the project was discontinued after volunteers faced backlash and safety risks from obsessive fans and aggressive photographers. In recent years, ARMYs have largely refrained from gathering at airports.
V’s message, delivered with humility and sincerity, resonated strongly with fans. One fan wrote on X (Twitter), “Time to bring back Purple Line. We can do this if we all behave.” Another added, “It’s sad he has to make deals with us just to feel safe. That’s not what being a fan is about.”
The singer’s remarks come amid a rise in airport incidents involving celebrity crowding. V himself experienced overwhelming crowds earlier this month during his trip for Paris Fashion Week. At that time, he also posted a selfie urging fans to “stay safe next time.”
Fans interpreted his new message as a polite yet urgent call for change, hoping to restore a safe, respectful environment for both idols and fans.
Having recently completed his military service with South Korea’s Special Task Force, V is now preparing for BTS’s full group comeback next spring. He briefly returned to Korea for a fellow soldier’s discharge ceremony, which brought renewed media attention.
As he steps back into the spotlight, V’s respectful tone and thoughtful request serve as a reminder of the importance of mutual care and boundaries between celebrities and fans.
