A shocking incident in Bodh Gaya, Bihar, has triggered national outrage in India. On July 24, during a recruitment event for the Family Protection Force held at the Bihar Military Police training ground, a 26-year-old woman collapsed from heat exhaustion during a physical endurance test.

She was placed in an ambulance to be transported to a nearby hospital but instead, she was allegedly gang-raped while unconscious inside the vehicle.

According to her complaint filed at Bodh Gaya Police Station, the victim regained partial consciousness during the journey and later informed authorities that she had been sexually assaulted by 3 to 4 men. The alleged assault took place while the ambulance was en route to the hospital—only 3.5 km away—but took an abnormally long time to arrive.

Police launched an immediate investigation, forming a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and deploying forensic experts. Within hours, authorities arrested Vinay Kumar (ambulance driver) and Ajit Kumar (technician onboard). CCTV footage reportedly showed the ambulance taking a non-standard route, supporting the victim’s account.

According to reports, no female officer was present in the vehicle at the time of the incident—further intensifying public backlash.

The case has provoked strong reactions across India. Tejashwi Yadav, opposition leader in Bihar, sent an open letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, criticizing the deteriorating safety for women, “The dignity of women and girls is being violated every day,” he wrote.

Chirag Paswan, leader of the Lok Janshakti Party (LJP), called for systemic reform, “We must address the root causes that allow such heinous crimes to repeat.”

Public protests and demands for accountability are growing, as citizens and rights groups press for stronger laws, increased female presence in emergency services, and swift justice for the perpetrators.

This disturbing case is being closely monitored as investigations continue and more arrests are anticipated.
