In pursuit of the world’s tiniest waist, Aletair Avendaño, a 33-year-old Venezuelan model residing in Miami, Florida, has spent the past 17 years undergoing extreme body modifications. She currently sports a jaw-dropping 18-inch waist —a result of wearing a corset 23 hours a day and undergoing rib removal surgery.
According to UK media outlets NeedToKnow and Daily Star, Avendaño started with just six hours of corset use per day. Today, she only removes it to shower. “It started as a style choice, but it’s become a way of life,” she said, explaining her devotion to achieving a wasp-like figure.

Avendaño revealed she has invested over $1 million USD into her body transformation journey, with approximately $638,000 spent on plastic surgery. This includes seven breast augmentations, five rhinoplasties, butt implants, dental work, and various body contouring treatments.
Due to her unique physique, Avendaño wears custom-made clothing and spends heavily on dietary plans and aesthetic maintenance to preserve her silhouette. Her ultimate goal is to surpass Cathie Jung, the current Guinness World Record holder for the smallest waist on a living person (15 inches).
Jung achieved her record in her 60s after decades of corset training that began in her 30s. Inspired by Jung, Avendaño is pushing her body to the limit—despite experiencing organ displacement and extreme physical pain. She encourages others pursuing a similar goal to “start with six hours a day and increase slowly by two hours each week.”

However, medical experts are raising red flags. Prolonged use of tight corsets can reduce lung capacity by 30–60%, hinder digestion, impair circulation, and even cause internal bleeding or organ necrosis.
According to the Korean Medical Industry Journal, excessive abdominal pressure can lead to loss of body temperature regulation, digestive disorders, and an increased risk of fainting. Experts strongly recommend exercise-based body shaping as a safer alternative.
If corset use is unavoidable, doctors advise limiting wear to one hour per day and avoiding use during meals to prevent gastrointestinal issues.
