On July 21, numerous complaints surfaced online regarding the strict admission requirements for DAY6’s fan meeting. Netizens criticized the process, which they described as more stringent than airport security, national elections, or even bank loan applications. The core complaint revolves around a mandatory in-person ID check that matches the ticket buyer’s name with a physical government-issued ID.

Fans Called for Actions

Fans expressed frustration that gifting tickets to friends or family had become virtually impossible under these rules. One user called out the policy of uploading ID documents—including resident registration numbers and addresses—into group chatrooms, labeling it a clear violation of privacy and an illegal act of personal data collection.

Another user described an incident where, despite bringing her mother’s ID, a family relation certificate, and her own ID, she was denied entry by a staff member. Shockingly, she saw others uploading photos of such documents into a group chat at the instruction of the organizers, prompting calls for public awareness and legal intervention.

Criticism escalated when it was reported that some fans were denied entry even after police had verified their identities. This led to claims that the event staff and security were acting above the law, further fueling accusations of “power abuse”.

While some attendees shared similar stories of mistreatment, others said they experienced no issues. One fan claimed they entered without complications by simply submitting the required documents without a companion, suggesting that certain staff may have acted independently.

Still, the prevailing sentiment online is one of anger and disbelief. Fans are calling for immediate action, demanding the agency prevent such incidents from recurring in future events.

JYP Apologizes for Personal Information Breach

On July 21, JYP Entertainment released a statement via DAY6’s official channels addressing the incident at their 4th official fan meeting.

JYP admitted to the mishandling of private data, stating, “We deeply apologize to the attendees who experienced inconvenience and harm due to the identity verification process.” They confirmed that the outsourced entry management led to “excessive collection and demand for personal information,” including cases where unnecessary details or documents were requested.

While the verification was originally intended to prevent illegal ticket reselling, the agency acknowledged the process was mismanaged. “We failed to respond flexibly and responsibly,” they said, emphasizing that such practices compromised fan trust.

In response, JYP announced corrective measures: full refunds for fans denied entry, an ongoing investigation with the operating company, and a commitment to safeguard fan privacy at future events. “We take full responsibility for the situation,” the agency stated, promising to “ensure that personal privacy is respected and no unfair collection of information occurs moving forward.”

JYP concluded the statement with a renewed commitment to fans: “We sincerely apologize for causing distress. We will do our best to ensure that the remaining fan meeting sessions can be enjoyed with peace of mind and happiness.”

DAY6 is currently holding their fourth official fan meeting “PIER 10: All My Days” in celebration of their 10th debut anniversary. The six-day event began on July 18 at Jamsil Indoor Stadium in Seoul and completely sold out during pre-sale to the band’s official fan club, My Day 5th Generation.
