Yo-han Issues Public Apology For Acting As High Schooler In New Drama

Actor Byun Yo-han has finally addressed recent public concerns.

During a recent Q&A session on his personal social media account, Byun Yo-han answered some viewers’ comments. One fan posted a screenshot from the 2012 drama “A Gentleman’s Dignity” along with the remark, “I just started watching “Black Out” and Byun Yo-han looks like this.”

The screenshot referenced a scene where actors in their 40s wore school uniforms instead of casting younger actors. In response, Byun Yo-han humorously apologized, saying, “I’m sorry, teacher.”

Another viewer asked, “How did Byun Yo-han feel about wearing a school uniform?” To which he candidly replied, “Thank you for your question. Indeed, it was challenging.”

Byun Yo-han

Currently, Byun Yo-han stars in the MBC Friday-Saturday drama “Black Out”. The series follows a young man framed for murder in a mysterious case where the dead body went missing. Ten years later, he embarks on a journey to uncover the truth of that fateful day. In the drama, Byun Yo-han portrays the main character, Go Jung-woo, and has garnered attention for wearing a school uniform without a stand-in to depict his character’s high school days from a decade earlier.

At the drama’s press conference, Byun Yo-han addressed the uniform issue, saying, “I knew that me wearing a school uniform would become a significant issue.” He elaborated, “Honestly, my primary concern was how to effectively portray Go Jung-woo’s character from age 19 to his early 30s. While using a younger actor might have been an option, I was convinced that personally depicting the passage of time would have a stronger impact. After discussing it with the director, we decided to proceed this way. Having worn the uniform once before, I was familiar with the fit, and it became a meaningful experience. I believe “Black Out” will likely be the first and last time I wear school uniform on screen.”
