“The Night Owl” PD Ahn Tae-jin To Direct “Signal 2”, “We’re Coordinating Schedule With Actors”
The second season of “Signal”, which is considered a “legendary drama” by many people, is already under production
On July 16th, Asia Business published an exclusive report that director Ahn Tae-jin of the movie “The Night Owl” will take the megaphone for Season 2 of the drama “Signal”. Accordingly, “Signal 2” will wrap up pre-production by the end of this year and begin filming.
Director Ahn Tae-jin swept awards at Baeksang Arts Awards, Korea Film Critics Associations Awards, Grand Bell Awards and Blue Dragon Awards last year with his film “The Night Owl”. The movie was highly praised for its amazing thrills and suspense alongside the witnessing of truth with existential meaning. In addition, Studio Dragon and BARAM Pictures, which produced the first season, will also join the production this time. An official said to the media, “We are currently coordinating the schedule with the actors and staff”.
Earlier on July 5th, actress Kim Hye-soo hinted at the production of tvN’s “Signal 2” in a video. The video shows Kim Hye-soo wearing retro clothes similar to that in Season 1 and making a heart pose at a place believed to be a police station.
“Signal” is a drama released in 2016. It depicts the story of detectives in the past and present communicating over time through a walkie-talkie and solving cases that have been left unsolved for a long time. Starring Lee Je-hoon, Kim Hye-soo, and Cho Jin-woong, “Signal” gained keen attention from viewers with its interesting stories, well-organized narratives and excellent acting performances of the actors. Season 1 ended successfully with a rating peak of 12.5%.
The news of the production of “Signal” sequel was delivered from Rome, Italy in March. CEO Jang Won-seok of the drama production company B.A. Entertainment said in a lecture at Sapienza University of Rome, “Writer Kim Eun-hee is preparing a script for Season 2 of ‘Signal’”. Later, writer Kim Eun-hee confirmed it through her agency Medialab Siso, saying “I’m working on the script for ‘Signal 2’”.
