There is controversy over whether actor Byun Woo-seok is being overprotected by his bodyguards
On July 12th, Byun Woo-seok departed for Hong Kong through Incheon International Airport for a fan meeting.
Byun Woo-seok, wearing a baseball cap backwards, paired a stadium jacket with black jeans. His simple yet sophisticated style, along with his handsome appearance and tall height, immediately caught the eye.
As fans who saw Byun Woo-seok at the airport shared their experiences, there were also criticisms about the excessive protection by his bodyguards. This was revealed through a post by a netizen who said, “What are the chances that Seon-jae (Byun Woo-seok’s character) would come in when I’m here at the airport with my parents?“
Byun Woo-seok entered the airport lounge escorted by bodyguards. Although he wore a hat and mask, making him less recognizable, his nearly 190cm height and the presence of bodyguards made him noticeable.
Some citizens recognized Byun Woo-seok and took photos with their cell phones. However, they did not physically approach him or insist on taking photos. Fans were seen watching or taking pictures from a distance, when suddenly, the bodyguards started using flashlights.
This led to a controversy over excessive protection. While it was not Byun Woo-seok’s fault, the fact that flashlights were used in a public place, disturbing other passengers already resting in the lounge, drew criticism.
As the video spread on SNS and online communities, netizens commented, “It’s too much“, “It’s unnecessary“, “What if someone’s eyes get hurt from the flash?“, “Most people wouldn’t even know who he is” and “Is it okay to use flashlights on ordinary people like that?“
