Who is HyunA?
Kim Hyun-ah, known professionally as HyunA, is a South Korean singer-songwriter, rapper, and model. She debuted as a member of the girl group Wonder Girls in 2007, but left the group quickly after and re-debuted under girl group 4Minute in 2009. She began her solo career in 2010.

HyunA’s Career
- 2006-2009: Girl group debut
HyunA was revealed as the main rapper of the JYP Entertainment girl group Wonder Girls in 2006, and participated in the group’s debut mini album “The Wonder Begins”, released in February 2007. However, she left Wonder Girls in July of the same year, after her parents raised concerns about her health.
In 2008, HyunA joined Cube Entertainment, and in June 2009, she debuted as a member of Cube girl group 4Minute with the single “Hot Issue”.
- 2009-2010: Early solo activities
In 2009, HyunA collaborated with Lee Gi-kwang on the song “2009” for his debut album “First Episode: A New Hero”, and also appeared in the music video of his single “Dancing Shoes”. In the same year, she rapped and appeared in the MV for Navi’s “Wasteful Tears”, as well as featured in Brave Brothers’ song “Bittersweet”.
She also released the digital single “Tomorrow” as part of the “Dream Team Girl Group,” a promotional group for Samsung’s Anycall phone with Han Seung-yeon, UEE, and Gain.
In January 2010, HyunA released her 1st solo single “Change”, which garnered remarkable attention, followed by several more singles.
- 2011 – 2015: Breakthrough as soloist, Debut as Trouble Maker
In 2011, HyunA released her 1st mini album “Bubble Pop” including the title track of the same name, which went on to become a global success.
In the same year, she debuted as part of a co-ed unit called Trouble Maker with former BEAST member Hyunseung, also gaining significant attention with the single “Troublemaker”.
In 2012, HyunA appeared in Psy’s viral music video for “Gangnam Style”, drawing worldwide attention. HyunA later cemented her position as a solo artist with her 2nd mini album “Melting” and the title track “Ice Cream” and 3rd album “A Talk” with lead single “Red”.
In 2015, HyunA dropped her 4th mini album “A+”, with the lead single titled “Because I’m the Best”, solidifying her title as the “sexy icon” of Korea.
- 2016 – Present: Label change & Dating news
In 2016, it was announced that HyunA’s group, 4Minute, will disband, leaving HyunA as the only member to stay with Cube Entertainment. Following 4Minute’s disbandment, HyunA continued activities as a soloist.
In 2017, Cube announced that HyunA and PENTAGON member Hui and former member E’Dawn (now known as Dawn) will debut as the sub-unit Triple H.
In 2018, it was revealed that HyunA has been dating E’Dawn since May 2016, and the couple eventually left Cube together after the agency terminated their contract due to lack of trust.
The next year, both HyunA and E’Dawn (now Dawn), signed with PSY’s agency P Nation, kickstarting a new stage in their career. The couple also released their duet EP “1+1=1” in 2021.
HyunA eventually left P Nation in 2022 and signed with AT AREA in 2023. She then released the EP “Attitude” in 2024, her first release under the current agency
Relationships
On August 2, 2018, HyunA revealed that she has been in a relationship with Pentagon member E’Dawn since May 2016. They got engaged on February 3, 2022, with the couple posting the announcement on Instagram. However, in November 2022, HyunA announced on her Instagram account that they have broken up.
In January 2024, HyunA announced on Instagram that she is dating Yong Jun-hyung, a former member of boy group HIGHLIGHT (previously BEAST). As Yong Jun-hyung was involved in Seungri’s notorious Burning Sun scandal, the relationship quickly faced intense opposition from fans. However, HyunA seems to pay no heed to the criticism, as in July 2024, Korean media reported that HyunA and Yong Jun-hyung are preparing for marriage in October of the same year.
