Kim Hyun Joong talks about legal battle with ex-girlfriend, being scammed 1 billion won, and affection for his wife
Singer Kim Hyun Joong opened up about his process of overcoming hardships and starting a new family.
Kim Hyun Joong appeared on MBN’s entertainment program “Passionate Goodbye”, which aired on November 28th, and said goodbye to his past.
Kim Hyun Joong, who had a long legal battle over the assault controversy related to his ex-girlfriend in 2014, recalled his hard time and confessed, “Many incidents happened to me one after another”.
He, who was proven not guilty thanks to the mobile phone forensic, said, “After then, I changed my cell phone about 4 times, but I kept them all in a safe place since I wouldn’t know what would happen to me in the future. I realized that those cell phones could possibly become evidence that protects me.”
He continued, “While living a life like that, I can no longer trust people. I’ve become more careful when texting. I draw a line to some extent when communicating with others and naturally narrow down my relationships”.
In response, Eun Ji Won carefully asked, “Don’t you have any friends around?”. Kim Hyun Joong answered, “No. As I kept suffering bad events, they naturally grew apart from me”.
Kim Hyun Joong shared, “I travel with my family but can’t go abroad because of my dogs”. Everyone was shocked when he confessed, “When I was in the military, I entrusted my dogs to an acquaintance, but that person abused the dogs and didn’t feed them.”
Regarding his recent comeback as a singer, Kim Hyun Joong said, “It was actually not easy at all. Now I feel happy telling my stories when performing on the stage for 2 hours. I wish to stay as I am now. It’s better to go slowly. I’m tired of ups and downs.”
The male singer also told the story of his military life. Kim Hyun Joong, who joined the army while suffering from depression and panic disorder, shared, “One of the scary things about military life is that you are not allowed to use a cell phone. Since I was completely cut off from the outside world, I fell into my own imagination. I felt extremely anxious and only thought of the worst situation. I couldn’t sleep for the whole week before my enlistment.”

He continued, “By doing simple labor work repeatedly, I successfully stopped taking medicine. It’s not that I overcame panic disorder, I just got rid of that person in me”.
Kim Hyun Joong said he was greatly shocked to find out that a junior in the military spread rumors about him. He confessed, “At that time, I thought ‘If I didn’t speak for myself, such nonsense would continue’. That’s why I tried hard to prove my innocence.”
The fact that Kim Hyun Joong was scammed 1 billion won when he was in a legal battle with his ex-girlfriend also surprised many viewers. The male singer said, “A really close friend came to my unit to borrow my money. But they didn’t pay me back, and I also lost contact with them. My old manager did borrow my money that way”, adding “Think of it now, it’s just like losing some money. I think if I don’t lose courage, the same thing would still happen with a larger amount of money.”
Meanwhile, Kim Hyun Joong recently married his first love and welcomed his first son. Introducing his wife, he said, “She’s really practical”, adding “I want to repay my wife by not letting myself go down in the wrong way again and maintaining this happy family“. Kim Hyun Joong also expressed his feelings when his child was born, saying “When I hugged my son for the first time, I was very surprised to find out that he couldn’t get the focus”, drawing laughter.
