Later on, she went to study in the United States, majoring in business administration. She even worked as an intern at a securities firm during college, but kept thinking about her dream to become a celebrity and eventually decided to pursue this path. According to the actress, pursing acting was the first time she chose something for herself in her life, hence her late acting debut at the age of 26.

While there were information that Cha Joo-young graduated from the University of Utah, the actress denied this herself.
