Mr. Han said, “The government will conduct a thorough investigation into the cause of the tragedy and make necessary changes to prevent such an accident from happening again.”

As of this morning, South Korean officials confirmed one more death, raising the total number of people killed in the tragedy to 154. In addition, 149 people were injured, of which 33 were seriously injured. The number of foreigners killed in the stampede was 26.

Prime Minister Han added, “All but one of the 154 fatal victims have been identified. We will do our best to support the bereaved families, including those based outside of Seoul and coming from abroad, on the funeral procedures.”

Most of the fatal victims were in their 20s. Of the 154 victims, 98 were women. According to experts, those with smaller body frames and less physical strength are more vulnerable to injury in a crowd surge situation.
