A male idol-turned actor whose surname is so rare less than 1,000 people in Korea have the same surname 

This male star is known to have an extremely unique surname. 

Ong Seong Woo, who first shot to stardom by competing on Mnet’s idol survival show “Produce 101” season 2 in 2017, excellently ranked 5th place in the finale and made his debut in the project boy group Wanna One later that year. Following his Wanna One activities, he has continued to promote as an actor.

Ong Seong Woo imprints his presence with his handsome face, tall physique, and outstanding singing and acting skills. In addition, as the first celebrity with the surname Ong, his unusual surname plays a big part in making the public remember him.

In Korea, there are two Ong clans, ‘Okcheon’ and ‘Papyeong’, and Ong Seong Woo is from the Okcheon Ong clan. As of 2015, there are a total of 837 people of the Okcheon Ong clan, while the total number of Papyeong Ong clan is less than 1,000.

Ong Seong Woo started his acting career through JTBC’s drama “At Eighteen” in 2019, after Wanna One disbanded.  Although it was his first lead role, he received positive reviews for his delicate emotional acting. 

In the following year, 2020, Ong Seong Woo once again showed a praiseworthy performance in the drama “More Than Friends” and last year on Kakao TV’s “Would You Like a Cup of Coffee?”. This year, instead of dramas, he starred in two movies, Netflix’s “Seoul Vibe” and “Life is Beautiful”.

Not only that, Ong Seong Woo is all set to return next year in the movies “Jung Family’s Farm” and “Starlight is Falling”. He will also make a comeback to the small screen in “Strong Woman Gang Nam Soon”, a spin-off of the popular 2017 drama “Strong Woman Do Bong Soon”.
