Lee Byung Hun, Kim Hye Soo, and more Korean stars expressed condolences at the funeral of late actress Kang Soo Yeon

The funeral of actress Kang Soo Yeon was held in a solemn atmosphere today (May 9). 

On May 5, actress Kang Soo Yeon collapsed from cardiac arrest at her home and was urgently taken to the hospital. She was diagnosed with cerebral hemorrhage and received treatment, but eventually failed to regain consciousness. She passed away on May 7 at the age of 56, surrounded by her family. 

Today (May 9), Kang Soo Yeon‘s mortuary was held at the funeral hall of Samsung Seoul Hospital. Her coffin will be buried on May 11. Industry figures and fans are expressing deep sorrow and condolences at the sudden news of Kang Soo Yeon’s passing, a big loss for Korea’s film industry. Kim Dong Ho, former president of the Busan International Film Festival, presided over the funeral. Director Bong Joon Ho, and famous actors including Moon Geun Young, Lee Byung Hun, Go Soo, and Kim Hye Soo visited the funeral to pay respect to Kang Soo Yeon.

Kang Soo Yeon started her acting career in 1969 as a child actor. In 1987, she reached the pinnacle of success after the project Mimi and Cheolsu’s Youth Sketch. This was the highest-grossing Korean film of that year.

In the same year 1987, the actress born in 1966 won the prestigious Golden Bell Award for the film “We Are Going to Geneva Now” and the Best Actress award at the 1987 Venice International Film Festival. The last film “Jung-E” by Kang Soo Yeon has finished filming and is expected to be released in the second half of this year. This is the final legacy of the late actress.
