4 Korean actresses in their 40s who played characters way younger than their actual age

These 4 Korean actresses are unarguably gorgeous, but they still can’t avoid looking somewhat awkward when portraying characters in their 20s.

Despite often receiving much praise for their timeless beauty, it still seems that transforming into characters much younger than their real age is a bit too much for the following Korean actresses in their 40s. It’s undeniable that these female stars put a lot of effort into looking younger to fit their roles, but they still somehow look “wrong”.

1. Song Hye Kyo

In Now, We Are Breaking Up, Song Hye Kyo acted in a few flashback scenes to show what happened 10 years ago, when she was still a girl in her late 20s. Song Hye Kyo had to change her hairstyle and makeup a bit to look younger in these scenes. Although she tried to bring out the youthful image, many viewers find it difficult to see much difference between her look in the flashback scenes compared to the present ones.

2. Kim Hee Sun

Kim Hee Sun is famous for her beauty that seems like she has not aged, but the first-generation goddess once shocked the public when she portrayed a character in her 20s in Alice. Kim Hee Sun was 43 when she filmed Alice, so that’s a significant age gap between character and actor. Therefore, many viewers find this particular styling of Kim Hee Sun in Alice awkward. Perhaps Kim Hee Sun could still pull off characters around the age of 30-35, but probably not younger ones.

3. Choi Ji Woo

Choi Ji Woo inherently looks younger than her real age, but taking on the role of a high schooler may still not be a good fit for this actress. Although she was dressed and wore makeup to look younger in Twenty Again, the age difference between Choi Ji Woo and male co-star Lee Sang Yoon is still noticeable on-screen.

4. Kim Seo Hyung

Because she has angular facial contours and emanates “masculine energy”, few people would expect Kim Seo Hyung to portray a cute and naive high schooler. She once shocked the audience with photos of her acting cute in a uniform behind the scenes of Temptation of Wife in 2008. Fortunately, that was the only time Kim Seo Hyung played a schoolgirl in her acting career.
