Veteran actor Park Geun-hyung, who is currently appearing in the stage production of The Merchant of Venice, looked back on memorable moments from his career during the upcoming episode of MBN’s Kim Joo-ha’s Day & Night.
Recalling his first meeting with a rookie Won Bin while filming the KBS drama Kkokji, Park Geun-hyung remembered being unimpressed with the young actor’s long hair and unclear pronunciation. “What are you doing right now? Read it again,” Park Geun-hyung recalled telling him, even scolding Won Bin and ordering him to cut his hair.

When Park Geun-hyung later returned to the filming set, he was pleasantly surprised. Won Bin had not only cut his hair but had also significantly improved his diction. Park Geun-hyung praised him, saying, “You were capable of doing it all along. Why didn’t you do it before?” Looking back, Park Geun-hyung admitted he felt proud after Won Bin eventually rose to stardom, believing his advice had played a small part in the actor’s success.
The veteran actor also spoke candidly about his disappointment that Won Bin has not taken on another acting project since the massive success of The Man from Nowhere. Park Geun-hyung revealed that he has repeatedly conveyed messages through mutual acquaintances, encouraging Won Bin to return to acting. “I keep telling people to tell him that actors like him should be out there acting, but he hasn’t performed for such a long time.” His comments reflected the sentiments of many fans who have spent years hoping to see one of Korea’s most beloved actors return to the screen.
The conversation took an unexpected turn when host Kim Joo-ha revealed that she personally knows Won Bin. She shared that she once directly asked him why he had not acted since The Man from Nowhere.
According to Kim Joo-ha, Won Bin explained that the overwhelming impact of the film may have made it difficult for suitable offers to come his way. “He told me that perhaps because the image of The Man from Nowhere was so strong, projects just haven’t been coming in.”
Kim Joo-ha added that Won Bin is still actively preparing for a future comeback. She revealed that the actor is currently growing his hair because he wants to be ready for whatever role may eventually come his way. “He said he’s keeping his hair long because he never knows what kind of character he’ll be offered, so he’s staying prepared.” Her comments have reignited anticipation among fans who continue to wait for Won Bin’s long-awaited return to acting.
During the program, Park Geun-hyung also reminisced about actress Kim Nam-joo, revealing that after receiving stern advice from him early in her career, she dramatically improved her acting. He smiled as he recalled how Kim Nam-joo went on to achieve great success with the drama Her House, praising the dedication and determination she showed in developing her craft.
