4 kisses that are heavily criticized in Korean dramas

At first glance, these kisses look romantic, but actually, they have been heavily ostracized.

Sweet kisses are a specialty of Korean series, making the audience fall in love because of the explosive chemistry between the actors. However, there are also many kisses that have been hated by the audience for many reasons.

1. Father is Strange

In ‘Father is Strange’, the character Byun Mi Young (Jung So Min) is a crew member, she is forced by a director to kiss the face of star Ahn Joong Hee (Lee Joon) to have a realistic lipstick stain. Even then she had to kiss Joong Hee on the lips. This seemingly sweet scene was vehemently criticized by netizens because it was no different from sexual harassment at work.

2. Seonam Girls High School Investigators

The kiss scene between two high school girls in Seonam Girls High School Investigators was the first lesbian kiss scene on Korean television. Instead of being supported, this scene was stoned by the audience, even the Korean Television Standards Evaluation Council (KCSC) also said this scene has violated article 27 (maintaining dignity) and  Article 43 (Emotional Cultivation Between Children and Minors) of the Law on Television. The anti-LGBT organization of Korea strongly objected KCSC’s statement, saying that this is a decision that violates human rights.

3. Moonlight Drawn By Clouds

This drama was sanctioned by KCSC for the kiss scene of characters Hong Ra On (Kim Yoo Jung) and Lee Yeong (Park Bo Gum). The reason given is because Kim Yoo Jung was only 17 years old when filming this scene. Besides many viewers who agreed with KCSC and strongly opposed the underage kiss, there were also viewers who thought that this scene was not so offensive that it had to be whistled.

4. Our Gab Soon

‘Our Gab Soon’ was also vehemently criticized for the scene where the female lead Shin Gab Soon (Kim So Eun) suggested breaking up with Heo Gab Dol (Song Jae Rim) and was forced to kiss him. This scene is said to have promoted violence in love. Surprisingly, KCSC and the crew in this case all say that the scene “has no problem at all”.
