Girl group 2NE1 (CL, Gong Minzy, Park Bom, Sandara Park) have been reunited as a whole for the first time in 7 years and is receiving a warm response from fans.
2NE1 received enthusiastic applause after making a surprise appearance at the world-class music festival “Coachella Valley Music & Arts Festival” (Coachella)’ held in Indio, California, the U.S on April 16th (local time). It was the first time in 7 years since the 2015 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMA) that all four 2NE1 members performed on the same stage.
Gong Minzy, who agreed to appear in an interview with Star News on the 18th (KST) after finishing the hot Coachella stage, said, “It was nice to see the faces of so many spectators while standing on a big stage with my members after a long time. It was a moment of countless emotion to me,” she said meaningfully.
Gong Minzy expressed her gratitude to the fans who sent enthusiastic cheers to 2NE1‘s reunion stage. She said, “I thought that the audience would like it because it was a stage that we prepared for our fans who have been waiting for us for a long time, but on the other hand, I was also worried whether they would remember us or not.”
This stage was reportedly led by leader CL, who was the one invited to Coachella. It is rumored that CL has had close conversations with the members before the performance and that each agency also came together for a cause. Recently, photos of their reunion at CL and Park Bom‘s birthday party were uploaded on social media.
Gong Minzy explained, “I heard about Coachella since CL unnie’s birthday”, adding, “We made many good memories while preparing for the stage as we shared our daily life stories and how we have been with each other, our mindsets about the performance, and honest talks about fans who have been waiting for us”.
2NE1’s performance as a whole group was literally a “big surprise”. Both Coachella and 2NE1’s sides reportedly maintained thorough security outside until the actual stage took place. First of all, CL set up a solo stage as scheduled. Right after CL’s stage ended, 2NE1, which was completed with the appearance of the other 3 members Gong Minzy, Park Bom and Sandara Park, decorated a spectacular stage with their hit song “I’m The Best”.
Gong Minzy said, “It was such a grateful time for all four of us to be able to prepare such a great performance together”, adding, “I thought I had such a memorable page in my life. I hope we’ll stay in the hearts of you all, who have remained unchanged. All four of us will do our best and try to show you, who have waited for us, better performances”.
Gong Minzy also raised expectations for her solo activities. She is currently taking on various challenges. She has shown herself as a singer-songwriter and appeared in several entertainment programs which she didn’t try during 2NE1 activities. She revealed different charms through shows such as “Sister’s Slam Dunk Season 2”, “King of Masked Singer”, “Oh Eun-young’s Golden Counseling Center”, etc. She also boasted her solid musicality through Watcha’s original music show “Double Trouble”. Gong Minzy was cast in the OTT musical “Lovely Voice: The Beginning” and challenged acting. She said, “I’m currently preparing new music. I plan to communicate with overseas fans who have not been able to meet me due to the Covid-19 pandemic”.
