Chinese actress Zhao Lusi is embroiled in a heated public battle with her agency, Galaxy Cool Entertainment, with accusations of exploitation, unfair contracts, and reputational sabotage dominating social media discussions.

Zhao Lusi has openly accused her management company of overworking her, cutting her income, and neglecting her health. During livestreams, Zhao Lusi alleged the agency rejected acting offers on her behalf without consulting her, used her name to secure investments in unrelated projects, and exploited her popularity to support less successful artists under their label.

Veteran Hong Kong director Wong Jing also weighed in, suggesting the dispute was rooted in profit distribution. “If Zhao Lusi leaves, there’s a real chance the company could collapse,” he remarked, pointing out that she is the agency’s only major star while other contracted artists remain virtually unknown.

Zhao Lusi’s health struggles have been a focal point in the dispute. Early in 2025, she revealed shocking photos showing extreme weight loss, stroke symptoms, and an inability to walk or eat independently. She claims the agency failed to address her medical needs, instead withdrawing funds from her personal studio and refusing to return operational control, effectively silencing her.

The situation escalated over the drama Lover, which halted production due to Zhao Lusi’s illness. While Zhao Lusi agreed to share responsibility for financial losses, she argued for a 50:50 split under her original contract terms. The agency insisted on a 3:7 split in their favor, even though the updated contract with that ratio had not yet taken effect.

Public sentiment has largely sided with Zhao Lusi, recalling how her breakout role in The Romance of Tiger and Rose rescued Galaxy Cool Entertainment from the brink of bankruptcy and generated over half the company’s revenue. Singer Jeff Chang previously stated on air, “Without Zhao Lusi, Galaxy Cool Entertainment would have failed long ago.”

With her contract now extended until 2030 and tensions at a boiling point, Zhao Lusi’s future in the industry remains uncertain — and the battle for control over her career continues to unfold.
