“Yumi’s Cells 2” Kim Go-eun, “Yumi’s hair grew longer thanks to the power of ‘smooth hair cell'”
Yumi is back along with the cells.
The press conference of TVING’s original series “Yumi’s Cells” season 2 was broadcast live online at 2 p.m. on June 7th with the attendance of actors Kim Go-eun, Park Jin-young and director Lee Sang-yeob.
Kim Go-eun, who plays Yumi, conveyed the reactions of those around her towards “Yumi’s Cells”. She said, “Among all the works I’ve done, people responded to ‘Yumi’s Cells’ the most in terms of empathy.” Park Jin-young shared, “Many said that cells are cute and the drama is interesting. I didn’t come out from the beginning of season 1, but if I came out from the beginning, I wouldn’t have watched it objectively. As a viewer, I watched the drama from episode 1 and it was so much fun.”
What is the charm of season 2? Director Lee Sang-yeob replied, “It’s Bobby. I wonder if there’s such a sweet man in the world. Bobby’s cells appear and Yumi’s new cells also appear. Season 2 will depict a growing romance that goes beyond liking and heart-throbbing.”
Kim Go-eun, who said “Yumi’s Cells” is her first seasonal drama, added, “I filmed it without a break in the middle, so it felt more like a long-running drama rather than a season drama. I completed filming, but I haven’t watched season 2, so it’s a different feeling. I’m curious and looking forward to it.”
Kim Go-eun went on to say confidently, “I’ve never watched or acted in a drama with animation and live-action appearing at the same time. A drama that has never been seen anywhere in which director Lee Sang-yeob’s great directing skills, good music and actor Park Jin-young’s great acting skills are combined.”
There were difficulties in acting with cells. Kim Go-eun confessed, “It was difficult for the director to read (cell lines) next to me. I was worried that there would be a big difference in tone when combined with cells, but after watching the original airing, I thought the director was amazing.”
On the other hand, what is the difference compared to season 1? Kim Go-eun answered, “Among the cells, a cell called ‘smooth hair’ exerted power and made Yumi’s hair longer. In season 2, she makes courageous and big choices in her life. I thought Yumi would have changed in some way, and this seemed to be naturally expressed in the emotional line and flow of the work.”
“Yumi’s Cells” is a cell-based psychological romance that unravels the daily life of the ordinary office worker Yumi (Kim Go-eun) through the eyes of the cells in her head. Last season, Yumi had a heartbreaking breakup with Goo Woong. Season 2 will be about how Yumi forgets the pain and returns to her daily life. On top of that, her flirting moments with Bobby (Park Jin-young) are also highly expected.
“Yumi’s Cells” season 2 will be released for the first time through TVING on June 10th.
