In Bon Appétit, Your Majesty, which ended on September 28, Yoon Seo-ah played Seo Gil-geum, a bright and curious 18-year-old girl blessed with an extraordinary sense of smell. With her playful dialect and lively expressions, she brought fresh energy to the otherwise heavy palace survival romance-fantasy storyline, even helping Im YoonA’s character Yeon Ji-young adapt to life in the Joseon era. Her chemistry with YoonA also stood out, creating a captivating “womance” that delighted viewers.
Recalling her sudden casting, Yoon Seo-ah explained, “I got the script only 3~4 days before filming began. Since the character spoke in a Jeolla dialect, I wanted to make sure it felt distinct from my past work. I even reached out to actor Hong Jin-ki, who had worked with me before, for help. At first, I memorized everything quickly and practiced the rhythm of the dialect by writing it down. Later, I even visited my grandmother in Yeosu to practice by speaking with her and in the marketplace.”
Although cast just before filming, Yoon Seo-ah managed to create an unforgettable character. She shared, “Director Jang Tae-yoo was someone I admired since childhood. When I got the call, it felt like a dream. I believed Gil-geum was a role I could do well, so I had confidence despite the short preparation time. It was definitely a challenge, but I embraced it as a new opportunity.”

Reflecting on the impact of her performance, she added, “My mother is so happy. After a series of difficult personal events, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty became my first project again. Seeing the drama succeed brought joy and energy not just to me but also to my family. My parents would even send me screenshots of the ratings—it feels like we’re celebrating together.”
Thanks to her efforts, Yoon Seo-ah has established herself as a rising actress, with Seo Gil-geum now considered one of the most memorable characters in Bon Appétit, Your Majesty.
