Yoo Jae-seok also illegally parked? “Running Man”’s excuses in its letter of apology

Running Man apologizes for illegal parking in the disabled parking areas, but its apology is said to be full of excuses.

SBS’ representative entertainment program “Running Man” apologized for the controversy over illegal parking in parking areas for the disabled. However, its apology brought confusion to the public, and the weight of the responsibility shifted to Yoo Jae-seok

Running Man” which aired on July 31st, was an episode titled “Tail-biting Running Man Race.” In this episode, the members carried out a mission at the Seoul Mountain Culture Experience Center located in Mapo-gu, Seoul. In the race that proceeded outside the building, controversy arose as several vehicles believed to belong to “Running Man” staff were parked in the parking areas for the disabled.

SBS said in an official position on August 1st, “The production team has checked the production team’s vehicles parked in the disabled parking areas on July 31st. The recording team has rented the entire Sangam Mountain Culture Experience Center building to create a safe filming environment.”

“This is an inexcusable mistake made by the production team, and we sincerely apologize to the viewers who cherish and love ‘Running Man’. ‘Running Man’ is responsible for this incident and we will try to be more careful in producing the show to prevent a recurrence in the future.”

Parking spaces for the disabled should be empty even if there are no disabled people present at the time. It is common sense that any driver should know, but the production team’s explanation that “We rented the entire building” is causing confusion to the public. Public opinion criticizing their actions and opinions that it does not matter because they already blocked access to the building itself are going up against each other online.

However, it is difficult to avoid legal responsibility regardless of whether the building was closed on the day. According to Article 17 of the Convenience Act for Persons with Disabilities, other than vehicles for official duties and public interest, such as emergency vehicles, vehicles that don’t have the disability parking permit attached are not allowed to park in parking areas exclusively for persons with disabilities. Those who violate this will be fined up to 200,000 won.

Amid conflicting opinions from netizens who saw the apology, the controversy has shifted to Yoo Jae-seok, the show’s main MC. In the broadcast on that day, Yoo Jae-seok also transported in a vehicle. In addition, in the scene where he sat in his car and talked, a blue mark can be seen outside the window, which means he was in a parking area for the disabled.

SBS’ attitude of not being able to distinguish when to admit a mistake neatly is triggering many netizens, as they claimed the person who should represent the production of the program is not Yoo Jae-seok, but the production team, and SBS’ apology was just trying to make excuses.
