BLACKPINK’s contract renewal with YG Entertainment is still a hot topic among netizens

On November 14th, YG reported their performances in the third quarter of 2023. BLACKPINK is still listed as an artist under YG but their status is marked as “contract renewal in discussion”. At this time, various rumors about BLACKPINK’s future are circulating as YG has not yet made any official statements regarding the contract renewal.

After BLACKPINK wrapped up their “BORN PINK” world tour with the two-day encore concert in Seoul, there have been no signs of a comeback. Jennie released “You & Me” as a gift for fans despite hints of her departure from YG. Jisoo is expected to focus on acting and Rosé is still carrying out individual schedules. Lisa has been the most controversial member. After performing 3 days of nude show in Paris, she is facing an activity ban in China.

In this situation, YG began claiming their ownership of the name BLACKPINK. In particular, YG has released various paid content and merchandise under the name of BLACKPINK, such as VR Concert, Collection collab with Takashi Murakami, photocard BPTG set No.4~No.6, paid content on Weverse and Limited Theme BLACKPINK in Superstar YG. While fans are worrying about BLACKPINK’s undecided future, YG keeps on releasing entertainment content, such as Rosé’s Season’s Greetings featuring her pet dog Hank.

The majority of netizens believe that YG would never let BLACKPINK go as the group is bringing the largest profit for the company. BLACKPINK’s activities affect YG stocks significantly and YG is also taking advantage of BLACKPINK’s name by releasing merchandise. However, many people still find rumors of the members, especially Lisa, leaving YG convincing.
