The 38th Golden Disc Awards (GDA) was held at Jakarta International Stadium, Indonesia on the evening of January 6th. Singer Sung Si-kyung and ASTRO member & actor Cha Eun-woo were the MCs.
Jungkook is currently doing military service so he couldn’t attend the awards ceremony. However, the BTS member drew attention as he won meaningful awards.
Jungkook was awarded Album Bonsang with his first solo album “GOLDEN” released in November last year. He was named to jointly receive this award with many prominent artists, including LE SSERAFIM, IVE, aespa, Stray Kids, NCT DREAM, etc.
“GOLDEN” ranked 46th on Billboard according to the latest chart update on January 6th, continuing its extraordinary record three months after its release. The album also sold a total of 2.7 million copies.
In addition, Jungkook was also named as a winner of Digital Bonsang with “Seven (feat. Latto)”. This song achieved 1 billion streams within the shortest time in Spotify history, proving Jungkook’s status as a global pop star. As such, Jungkook became the second solo artist to win both Digital and Album Bonsang since IU did in 2022, and the first male solo artist to achieve that.
BLACKPINK’s Jisoo also won Digital Bonsang with the title track “Flower” of her first solo album “ME”, which was released in March last year. The song already surpassed 100 million Spotify streams and the album also sold 1.17 million copies, which was a new record for K-pop female soloists.
Moreover, Jisoo was also honored with Popular Artist, which was determined by fan votes, alongside singer Lim Young-woong. Even during her hiatus, the BLACKPINK member still received many votes from K-pop fans, proving her unchanging popularity.
Following the two awards, Jisoo was even nominated for Digital Daesang alongside strong candidates, such as NewJeans, LE SSERAFIM, IVE, SEVENTEEN, etc., proving her power as a global star.
Meanwhile, Jungkook already enlisted in the military with Jimin on December 12th. Jisoo recently revealed her plans to expand her activities by joining hands with her brother, who owns a healthy functional food brand, to set up an entertainment company.
