“I felt a spark with other idols while doing dance challenges”… WINNER’s Lee Seung-hoon criticized for exposing idols’ new way of flirting 

WINNER caused controversy over their careless remarks about idols doing dance challenges.

On August 22nd, WINNER appeared on Youtube channel Dingo Music “Tipsy Live 2”. In the released video, Kang Seung-yoon said, “Music shows have become the slaves to challenges. All the music shows on which we’re promoting are like that”, expressing his thoughts on music shows.

In response, Lee Seung-hoon said, “I think doing challenges is just a pretext, but while doing challenges, we can feel the sparks between each other”. Kang Seung-yoon agreed, “That’s right. There are such things”.

Lee Seung-hoon continued, “I felt that sometimes”, adding, “When we made eye contact, I think I felt some sparks”.

The members began to wonder with whom did Lee Seung-hoon feel the sparks. Lee Seung-hoon replied, “I don’t know if I was the only person who felt that”, adding, “I think I felt the spark with a few people”. Kim Jin-woo then jokingly said, “Was it with a man?”, drawing laughter.

Immediately after the video was released, netizens poured out criticism, saying “Some singers did it (the challenge) with a good heart. Did they do something wrong?”, “Now he left a bad impression on me”, “They were so careless”, “Don’t appear on broadcasts after drinking alcohol”, etc.

Earlier, WINNER made their comeback by releasing the new album “HOLIDAY”. During their promotion for the title track “I LOVE U”, the members did dance challenges with many idols, including girl group StayC, aespa’s Ning Ning, (G)I-DLE’s Miyeon, singer Sunmi, and dancer Aiki.

“Idol dance challenge” is a kind of promotional content in which idols perform the choreography of their new songs with other singers. Most idol singers are doing this and videos they took are created and uploaded on Instagram Reels and or Tiktok in the form of short videos.
