Will Zico pass the new boy group challenge?

Singer-producer Zico announced the launch of a boy group next year. Can Zico’s boy group succeed in the fierce fourth-generation market, which is already considered saturated?

The story of the boy group that Zico is working on has recently been revealed on entertainment shows. Zico, who revealed that he is preparing for a boy group, mentioned the direction of the group, “We are creating a group that is not limited to a specific genre. We will break all obvious formulas.”

Zico will lead the boy group’s overall production and debut. If they debut next year as planned, they will be the first boy group under KOZ Entertainment, to which Zico belongs.

Zico’s boy group launching project has been underway early on. KOZ Entertainment held an online audition for the launch of a boy group in January. They also sought out global talents through the “HYBE Multi-Label Audition” held in Las Vegas in April. The gemstones gathered through various auditions are scheduled to debut as KOZ’s first boy group through Zico’s hands.

Will KOZ Entertainment solidify its position in HYBE Labels?

As Zico not only takes charge of producing but also heralds his direct participation throughout the debut, expectations for the boy group he will introduce are quite high. In particular, as Zico has built a successful career as a solo artist with his own musical color since his debut as a member of Block B in the past, attention is being paid to whether he will be able to make a new leap forward as a producer.

Another factor to look forward to is that KOZ Entertainment, which Zico belongs to, is currently one of the labels under HYBE. In fact, Zico mentioned earlier regarding KOZ Entertainment’s mergers and acquisitions with HYBE, “I thought it would be an opportunity to have a wider and more diverse experience.” He said that he was in the process of expanding his draft plan through various communications with Chairman Bang Si-hyuk.

Attention is being focused on whether KOZ Entertainment will be able to achieve significant results in the K-pop market, following Big Hit Music (BTS, TXT), Pledis (Seventeen, fromis_9), BELIFT LAB (Enhypen), Source Music (LE SSERAFIM) and ADOR (NewJeans).

However, it is one of the variables that cannot be ignored that the fourth-generation K-pop idol market is already forming a fierce competition in the debut rush of many teams. The most important thing in launching the new boy group is that it should not be a group that relies on Zico’s star quality, but a group with unrivaled differences in the fourth-generation market. It remains to be seen what kind of result Zico, who took a difficult path called “group production”, will achieve.
