Will NewJeans be able to defeat IVE and win Rookie Awards with current achievements?

The female rookie battle of 2022 is already intense with groups like IVE, NMIXX, LE SSERAFIM, Kep1er, and more, but NewJeans also prove to be formidable.

According to a report recently released by NewJeans’ agency ADOR on August 4th, NewJeans’ first mini album garnered 2.06 streams on Spotify within one day of release, and attracted 226,000 accumulated listeners and 88,000 followers on the music platform. These numbers are so far higher than all previous records of Kpop girl groups that debuted within 2022.

Moreover, as of 8 AM (KST) on August 4th, the mini album “New Jeans” has topped the ITunes charts on 9 nations and regions, including Finland, Russia, Indonesia, Thailand, and many more. 2 songs from the album, “Attention” and “Hybe Boy”, also reigned over Spotify Korea’s Daily Top Song charts for 2 consecutive days, while “Cookie” and “Hurt” landed in No.3 and No.5, respectively, on August 2nd.

NewJeans’ debut album is also doing well on Korean charts. Three title tracks including “Attention”, “Hype Boy” and “Cookie” entered the Melon Daily Chart after only 6 hours of release, the shortest time for a debut song by a K-pop girl group in the past 3 years. In particular, “Attention” reached No.20 on the real-time Melon chart at 7pm KST on the first day of its release, the highest rank across girl groups’ debut songs in the past 3 years. In addition, NewJeans’ MVs are all in the Top 10 trending on YouTube Korea.

Earlier on July 28, the mini-album “New Jeans” was announced to have surpassed 444,000 pre-order copies. The album will officially go on sale on August 8, promising to bring NewJeans more records. With the current achievements, will New Jeans take home the year-end rookie awards?
