Will Nam Joo-hyuk’s New Drama “Vigilante” Continue The Sucess Of Disney+’s Hit “Moving”?

Disney+’s new original series “Vigilante” announced confident start

On November 6th, the press conference for Disney+’s new original series “Vigilante” was held at Grand InterContinental Seoul Parnas in Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Actors Yoo Ji-tae, Lee Joon-hyuk, Kim So-jin, and director Choi Jung-yeol attended the event. The lead actor Nam Joo-hyuk was absent because he was serving in the military after enlisting in March.

“Vigilante” is a webtoon-based action thriller about a model student from a police academy Kim Ji-yong (Nam Joo-hyuk), who protects the law during the day but lives as a ‘vigilante’ at night and punishes criminals who evade the law.

Introducing “Vigilante”, director Choi Jung-yeol said, “It’s a work with attractive characters with different beliefs and purposes collide and intertwine in the story”, raising expectations. Regarding his focus when creating a webtoon-based series, he shared, “I took advantage of the series format to create impressive endings and tried to maintain a fast-paced and impactful tension throughout the drama.”

Regarding the casting of actor Nam Joo-hyuk, who appears as ‘vigilante’ Kim Ji-yong, director Choi said, “This is a complicated and multifaceted character. I thought it would be very interesting to see Nam Joo-hyuk playing Kim Ji-yong with the fresh and clear vibe he has shown when playing youth dramas as well as new expressions of anger, resentment and fashing eyes he has never shown before. I think Nam Joo-hyuk’s portrayal of Kim Ji-yong is very attractive”.

Revealing his efforts to become Joheon, an investigation team leader in the drama, Yoo Ji-tae said, “I gained 20kg to build the character’s appearance and tried a new experience by increasing muscles”. The director added, “When he appeared at the meeting, I thought Joheon just came in, not Yoo Ji-tae. It was perfect, from his gestures to his hair and costumes”.

Vigilante

Lee Joon-hyuk takes on the role of Cho Kang-ok, a helper of Vigilante. He confessed, “I looked for references in documentaries and entertainment shows to create my character”. Kim So-jin, who plays broadcast reporter Choi Mi-ryeo, shared, “The director wanted this character to appear with a dark atmosphere so I tried to match the tone. I focused on expressing Choi Mi-ryeo’s confidence”.

Ahead of the drama premiere, Yoo Ji-tae said to viewers, “It’s time for the Korean action hero genre to shine. I’m confident about ‘Vigilante’ so please give much attention for it”. Director Choi Jung-yeol added, “The four lead actors have many charms and will show a lot of new aspects through this drama.”

Disney+’s “Vigilante” will be released on November 8th.
