For years, actor Patrick Tse, father of Nicholas Tse, has openly acknowledged only Cecilia Cheung as his daughter-in-law, despite Nicholas’s long-term relationship with diva Faye Wong.
While Nicholas reunited with Faye Wong in what fans called a “legendary rekindling,” Patrick Tse has shown little enthusiasm for the relationship. He rarely mentions Faye in public and often avoids praising her, saying vaguely, “She’s not bad, but…” In contrast, he has consistently spoken warmly of Cecilia, stating: “Cecilia Cheung will forever be my daughter-in-law—the only one I recognize.”
According to Chinese outlet QQ, Patrick Tse admires Cecilia for always prioritizing family above all else. Following her divorce from Nicholas, she endured career struggles and scandals yet still fought to gain custody of her sons Lucas and Quintus, leaving her marriage empty-handed. Over the years, she has raised her children with dedication, maintained close ties with the Tse family, and even sent greetings during holidays.
On Patrick Tse’s 80th birthday in 2020, Cecilia brought her children to celebrate and gifted him a hand-painted family portrait. The actor treasures it to this day, calling it the “best gift” she ever gave him. When Patrick was hospitalized, Cecilia sent flowers with a heartfelt note: “Grandfather, get well soon—the kids miss you dearly.” These gestures strengthened her place in his heart.
Patrick frequently praises her as kind, family-oriented, and patient with children.
