Rumors have long circulated that celebrities who decline invitations to Weibo Night, one of China’s biggest annual entertainment galas, risk facing “blacklisting” or hidden penalties. Yet for the 2025 edition of the event, major stars like Ju Jingyi, Dilraba Dilmurat, Tian Xuning, and Ziyu have openly declined to attend and seem completely unfazed.

On January 28, the Weibo Night 2025 organizers released their first round of confirmed guests, including Cheng Xiao, Michelle Chen, Zhou Keyu, Dai Luwa, Huang Yang Dian Tian, Zhao Ting, He Nan, Liu Xiening, Zhang Kang Le, and Zhang Hao (ZB1), among others.

However, fan update accounts soon confirmed that several popular celebrities would not attend, including Wang Hedi, Luo Yunxi, Hou Minghao, Ren Jialun, Tan Jianci, Wang Xingyue, Ju Jingyi, Ziyu, Tian Xuning, and Dilraba Dilmurat.

In the Chinese entertainment circle, it’s often whispered that Weibo one of China’s most influential platforms might “punish” stars who refuse to participate. Such alleged retaliation could include negative press being pushed to trending lists or withholding media exposure for up to a year.

But in reality, these claims remain unproven. The celebrities skipping Weibo Night 2025 all enjoy solid fanbases and strong commercial resources. The idea of them being “smeared” is largely dismissed, especially since their names trend consistently throughout the year both positively and negatively. While official reasons weren’t given, each absence is likely due to legitimate scheduling conflicts or strategic considerations.

Tian Xuning and Ziyu, for instance, rose to fame through the controversial Revenged Love, a BL-themed drama that skirted Chinese broadcasting restrictions by airing internationally. Though both remain in demand with major brands, their appearances at domestic entertainment events are restricted due to ongoing regulations from the National Radio and Television Administration.

Even if the Weibo Night team were to seat them far apart, their mere presence would stir intense online discussion due to their lack of joint public appearances. To avoid unnecessary controversy and maintain future opportunities, skipping the event is seen as the safest move.

Other stars like Ju Jingyi, Wang Hedi, Wang Xingyue, and Luo Yunxi are simply caught up with packed schedules. Wang Hedi is currently filming The Inn Season 4 as a main cast member and cannot be absent. Wang Xingyue is in Chengdu shooting Gao Bai, a modern drama set to start filming on January 31. Wang Churan is busy filming A Ming Dynasty Adventure.

As for Dilraba Dilmurat, her presence on any red carpet guarantees explosive media coverage. Her confirmed absence has left many fans disappointed, blaming her studio for poor schedule management. Some speculate her upcoming project is so significant that she couldn’t afford to miss a single day even if it meant skipping China’s biggest entertainment gala.

Weibo Night 2025 is set to take place on February 5. As more guest names are revealed, it’s already clear that the event will once again gather half the entertainment industry in one place, with headline-making moments expected from noon until midnight.
