Viewers express disappointment for the love line in “Reborn Rich”, “There is suddenly a kiss scene”
JTBC’s “Reborn Rich”, which has recorded high viewer ratings in each episode, drew great regret from viewers due to its sudden kiss scene.
According to the rating survey company Nielsen Korea on December 11th, episode 10 of “Reborn Rich”, which aired on the previous day (December 10th), recorded a nationwide viewer rating of 18.3%. With a Seoul rating of 20.5%, the drama ranked No.1 among dramas aired that day on all channels.
Amid the enthusiastic responses from viewers, episodes 9 and 10 of “Reborn Rich” depicted Jin Do Joon (Song Joong Ki) repeatedly turning the table.
With the help of prosecutor Seo Min Young (Shin Hyun Been), a friend from Seoul National University’s School of Law, Jin Do Joon succeeded in taking over Sunyang Department Store from his aunt Jin Hwa Young. Recognizing his ability, Jin Do Joon’s grandfather Jin Yang Chul (Lee Sung Min), who is Sunyang Group’s Chairman, said he would give Sunyang Financial Group to him. However, the episode ended with Jin Do Joon and Jin Yang Chul’s unexpected car accident.
“Reborn Rich” is making the viewers immersed in its story even more with fast development and the cast’s amazing acting performance. However, there is one thing that caused regret. It is the love line between Jin Do Joon and Seo Min Young.
In episode 10, Jin Do Joon was seen running somewhere holding Seo Min Young’s hand. Jin Do Joon showed Seo Min Young the news of Seo Taiji’s comeback on an electronic display board. Seo Min Young couldn’t hold back her emotion so she hugged Jin Do Joon and then kissed him. Seeing the embarrassed expression of Seo Min Young, Jin Do Joon kissed her back, confirming each other’s feelings.
Seo Min Young’s screen time was almost comparable to that of a minor role. However, this character was suddenly portrayed as a person who is really important to Jin Do Joon. Viewers who watched the kiss scene reacted, “Whenever the love line appeared, the drama suddenly became so boring”, “Why did they suddenly add a love line to the heavy atmosphere of the drama?”, “It would be better if the production team boldly exclude the love line”, etc.
In the original novel of the same name, the love line does not account for much proportion. However, the screen time for female characters and love lines has increased significantly in the drama version, drawing disappointment from drama fans.
