Vaginal plastic surgery → self-harm, are they suitable for a 15+ rating episode?… Seo Ye-ji’s drama “Eve” sparks controversies over its provocative setting

Drama “Eve” is controversial because of its excessive setting.

In tvN’s Wednesday-Thursday drama “Eve”, which aired on June 8th, Lee Ra-el (Seo Ye-ji) pushed ahead with her plan of seducing Kang Yoon-gyeom (Park Byung-eun).

After such a long time, Han So-ra (Yoo Sun) was able to sleep with Kang Yoon-gyeom so she was very satisfied. While receiving a massage, Han So-ra asked the employee, “Don’t you think my skin looks better these days?”, and the employee praised Han So-ra’s skin that it got better thanks to receiving massages. However, Han So-ra said, “Not massages, can’t you feel the effect of natural collagen? You don’t recognize the collagen produced naturally from being loved by the husband?”. Han So-ra instructed the employee to find out about gynecological plastic surgery. As the employee seemed to not understand her words, Han So-ra shouted, “You don’t know vaginoplasty? So annoying.”

Meanwhile, Lee Ra-el tried to get closer to Kang Yoon-gyeom by ingratiating Kang Yoon-gyeom’s wife Han So-ra, and succeeded in getting invited to Kang Yoon-gyeom’s villa party. Lee Ra-el approached Kang Yoon-gyeom in earnest and said she wanted to fill the empty space inside him. Kang Yoon-gyeom said, “What are you doing?”, trying to deny his feelings for Lee Ra-el.

Later, when Lee Ra-el saw Kim Jung-chul appearing at the party, she went out as her anger and fear erupted. Lee Ra-el hurt herself, and Kang Yoon-gyeom witnessed the scene. He said, “What are you burying in your heart? What is the hidden reason that makes you suffer like this?”, and suspected, “Who are you?”. Lee Ra-el lured Kang Yoon-gyeom by giving him a kiss.

Previously, episode 1 and 2 of “Eve” were rated 19+ for its intimate scenes and intense exposure, drawing much attention. Episode 4, which will be broadcast on June 9th, has also been confirmed to have a 19+ rating, signaling another shocking development.

After episode 3 with a 15+ rating aired, concerns over unnecessary scenes such as vaginal plastic surgery and self-harm were raised. According to Nielsen Korea, “Eve” recorded an average nationwide rating of 3.6% for episode 1, 3.7% for episode 2, and dropped to 3.0% for episode 3. It seems that the drama has failed to attract viewers with its provocative setting.
