US Minister talks about BTS and TWICE: “The US-Korea alliance is stronger than ever”

Famous Kpop groups BTS and TWICE were mentioned at a press conference held at the US State Department building, Office of the Spokesperson. 

On June 13th, Secretary Antony J. Blinken And Republic of Korea Foreign Minister Park Jin, who recently appeared at a Joint Press Availability, where they mentioned BTS, TWICE, and ties between the two nations.

In particular, Blinken said that it was the first time Minister Park visited the United States as a foreign minister, adding: “It has been done quickly since the recent Korea-US summit.”

As US President Joe Biden said in Korea at the time, the Korea-US alliance is stronger than ever, and has also become more lively and important than ever.

With regard to this statement, minister Blinken mentioned Kpop group BTS, saying: “I can’t forget BTS’ visit to the White House, a very remarkable meeting between the two countries recently. ARMYs (fans of BTS) in the States must have had a thrilling day.”

Previously on May 31st, BTS made a trip to the White House, where they discussed with President Joe Biden social matters like anti-Asian hate crimes and discrimination.

On June 4th, U.S. President Joe Biden released a second video of the day he met BTS on his Twitter account. 

Then, Blinken went on to talk about his recent appearance at the CBS talk show “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert”, saying: “I’ve had another Kpop moment. When I arrived at the show, there was a huge crowd at the entrance of the stage.”

I confess, I thought for a while that you came to see me,” he added. “But no. Kpop group TWICE was on the show that night.That’s why the crowd was there.

Blinken’s remarks are interpreted as an attempt to emphasize that the alliance with South Korea has permeated not only in terms of security but also as a cultural phenomena throughout the United States.

There was no doubt that the ties between the two countries were incredibly broad and strong,” Blinken affirmed. “Through this connection, which has deepened for nearly 70 years, the two countries are confronting urgent challenges and seizing opportunities.”
