While both of her parents are Japanese, Mina was born in San Antonio, Texas, USA and grew up in Kobe, Japan.
She studied ballet for 11 years, before switching to a more modern dancing studio. In 2013, Mina was scouted by JYP Entertainment while shopping with her mother. She eventually joined JYP as a trainee in early 2014.
Mina’s Career
Before TWICE, Mina appeared in the music videos of Junho’s “Feel”, miss A’s “Only You”, and Wooyoung’s “R.O.S.E”.
In 2015, she appeared on the survival program “SIXTEEN”and finished in 4th place, thus officially becoming a member of TWICE.

In 2017, a selfie of Mina and GOT7’s Bambam suddenly emerged on Chinese SNS platforms. In the photo, the two idols can be seen leaning closely together on a bed, sparking dating rumors. Regarding this, JYP Entertainment admitted that the photo is real, but denied dating allegations, saying that Mina and Bambam are simply close friends and colleagues under the same agency.
