TikToker Accused K-pop Fans of Having “a Mental Disease”, Targeted ARMYs

In a recently-published video, TikToker @viettrap (Viet Trap) discussed his beginning on the platform, and revealed that his initial audience was majorly K-pop fans. In the past, he would frequently made negative comments about K-pop fans, and this new video was meant to “remind” them.

In particular, Viet Trap mentioned BTS’s fandom, ARMY, saying, “They’re like ‘ARMY, BTS, Jungkook, I’m not happy unless he’s happy, he lives for us.’ I’m like, he doesn’t even know you’re alive. But then, I woke up everyday for like a straight year, and I was like ‘If you’re a K-Pop stan, Imma be the dogsh*t out of you. I did that for like a straight year. Just f*cking remove them from my fan base. And I haven’t said it in a while but it’s like, you guys have a mental disease, I hope you know that. Get a life, bro, why are you spending time making edits? Get a job.”

Viet Trap is known to be a cast member of the “Under The Influence” show, which recently had a podcast about “Toxic K-pop Stan Culture”. Here, Viet Trap mentioned his distaste for K-pop fans, and all the hosts agreed when the TikToker called fans “delusional”.

He also publicly insulted BTS’s fandom by saying “F*ck ARMYs”.

It is apparent that there are K-pop fans that went too far and too obsessive with their “stanning”. However, a lot of people genuinely like K-pop for the music and other aspect in the stanning culture without being toxic.

Therefore, many expressed that Viet Trap is “reaching” by describing all fans as having a “mental disease”, especially as the TikTok himself suffer from mental health issues.

In addition, the fact that Viet Trap wears a football jersey while shaming K-pop fans doesn’t help his case, as there have been cases of football fans turning violent after matches of their favorites.

Below are some comments under Viet Trap’s controversial video:

  • Bro what? Not all of us are like that?
  • Man it’s just music who hurt you?
  • “I don’t like stan culture”, says the guy wearing a football jersey
  • It’s kinda sad that majority females fandoms like ARMY feel safer, more connected, and more compassion from parasocial relationships than from real life interactions/relationships with men like y’all.
  • Idk, being this pressed about something that has NOTHING to do with you is kinda crazy
  • If you wanna talk about toxic stans and fandoms, look into sports fans
  • I don’t disagree that there is a line that a lot of stans cross, but there is a weird sense of moral superiority coming from you that I dislike
