Theme Song for the 2023 LoL World Championship ‘GODS’ by NewJeans Shatters Records 

NewJeans’ ‘GODS,’ the theme song for the ‘2023 League of Legends (LoL) World Championship,’ is receiving a warm response 

NewJeans’ ‘GODS,’ the 10th theme song for the ‘LoL World Championship,’ garnered attention even before its release. This is the first time a K-pop artist sang the theme song for the ‘LoL World Championship.’ 

When the MV for ‘GODS’ was released on October 4th, it attracted around 117,000 real-time viewers on YouTube Premier and set a new record for the most views in the first day among all ‘LoL World Championship’ theme song MVs, surpassing 7.8 million views within 24 hours.

This MV ranked first in the popular trending videos on YouTube Korea and entered the top charts in 46 countries/regions, proving its explosive global reception. As of 8 a.m. KST on October 10th, the YouTube views had reached 17.1 million.

‘GODS’ also made an impact on global charts. The song has recorded over 2.6 million streams on Spotify on the day of its release, setting a new record for the most streams on the first day among all ‘LoL World Championship’ theme songs. 

Based on this, ‘GODS’ entered the Spotify ‘Daily Top Songs Global’ chart at 41st place and ‘Daily Top Songs USA’ at 76th place, achieving remarkable success for a game theme song.

The synergy between the global esports phenomenon LoL and NewJeans has caught the attention of foreign media. Forbes in the United States praised, “From the first listen, ‘GODS’ perfectly complements the ‘LoL World Championship,’ evoking great moments throughout the competition with its calm sections and exhilarating moments.” 

‘GODS’ is a song with a grand sound that encapsulates the unique emotions of the ‘LoL World Championship’ and NewJeans’ powerful vocals. It differs in genre, sound, and vocal style from the songs previously sung by NewJeans. The ‘GODS’ MV  portrays the journey of Kim Hyuk-kyu, who won the ‘LoL World Championship’ last year.
