R. Tee takes the wheel from Teddy to create “PINK VENOM”.
BLACKPINK is one of the rare cases where their heat and connection with fans never die in spite of two long years without any music production. Their comeback “PINK VENOM” quickly took hold of many music charts, became the hot song of summer 2022 and opened up a trail of achievements for their 2nd studio album “BORN PINK”. “PINK VENOM” still maintains the unique taste of who BLACKPINK are: a big-budget music video, trend-setting images and addictive melodies.
Teddy has long been the music producer who is often behind BLACKPINK’s songs and, in parts, leads to the group’s success. While “PINK VENOM” is no exception, for long-term listeners of YG music, the track does not seem to have as many Teddy’s imprints as the other music production.
Before the release of “PINK VENOM”, BLACKPINK dropped the credit poster of those who worked on this comeback. As usual, Teddy is still their composer and producer. However, unlike a more strong “Teddy” influence in “Boombayah” or “DDU-DU DDU-DU”, “PINK VENOM” stresses the beat drop, making it the “money maker” of the song and leading the trend in various social media platforms. This style of music is more signature of R. Tee, an experienced producer who is under “The Black Label (YG’s subsidiary) and works with Teddy in this comeback.
Using a similar formula to “Kill This Love” and “How You Like That”, the song is divided into two parts with a repeated catchy drop. “PINK VENOM” is also incorporated with hip-hop elements from “Kick In The Door” by Notorious B.I.G and “P.I.M.P” by 50 Cent. The song is also announced to have used the “Pon De Replay” sample by Rihanna. These components are combined to form the unique traits for the song while appealing to the European-American vibe. R.Tee is the wizard behind these drops.
