Marvel’s “Eternals” has surpassed the cumulative audience of 3 million.
In this movie, Ma Dong-seok played the hero Gilgamesh, who showed off his presence with overwhelming power. Some criticized Ma Dong-seok, who performed bare-handed action scenes in “Eternals“, as a cliche character that was not much different from Korean movies.
In fact, the actor consistently showcased the type of acting that overpowered villains with overwhelming strength in “The Outlaws”, “Unstoppable” and “The Gangster, the Cop, the Devil”. Ma Dong-seok mentioned in several interviews in the past that he is constantly focusing on dangerous action acting.
In fact, Ma Dong-seok had been maintaining a weight of 110kg for over 20 years. However, 10 years ago, he suffered major injuries such as shoulder, spine and sternum fractures while filming the drama and had to undergo 3 surgeries.
Afterwards, Ma Dong-seok deliberately increased his muscle mass and has been maintaining a weight of 100kg since then. Whenever he needed to lose weight in order to transform into a character, he would get a ligament injection in his joints.
In an interview, Ma Dong-seok confessed, “I shoot a lot of action scenes because I don’t think I can do it for a long time. My body has a lot of injuries. I don’t know how much longer I can do this. I want to do it for a long time, but there will definitely be a limit.” As Ma Dong-seok is already 51 years old this year, it is impossible to predict how long his action acting will continue.
Ma Dong-seok, who is acting with a desperate mindset, will take part in the movie “The Outlaws 2” that is scheduled to be released next year. In addition, according to the film industry, the actor signed a contract with Marvel to appear as Gilgamesh in several Marvel movies aside from “Eternals”.
