“The Point Men” Hyun Bin, “I learned many things while acting with Hwang Jung Min… I hope we can work together again”
Actors Hwang Jung Min and Hyun Bin boasted about their chemistry in the movie “The Point Men”.
On the afternoon of January 13th, the press preview and press conference for the movie “The Point Men” was held at Megabox COEX in Samseong-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul. Actors Hwang Jung Min, Hyun Bin, Kang Ki Young and director Im Soon Rye attended the event and introduced their new film.
“The Point Men” depicts a negotiation operation carried out by National Intelligence Service (NIS) agent Dae Sik (Hyun Bin) and diplomat Jae Ho (Hwang Jung Min) who heads to Afghanistan to save South Korean hostages that have been kidnapped by the Taliban.
“The Point Men” mainly showcases the chemistry between the top stars Hwang Jung Min and Hyun Bin. The two actors became closer and received many helps from each other while acting together. Hwang Jung Min shared, “Hyun Bin and I are like close friends. We were different when it came to work”, adding “I really looked forward to working with him and we did our best to meet your expectations.”
He continued, “Acting is not something you can do alone. It was really fun and happy when we acted together”, adding “It was a chance for us to realize that we should be careful because we’re close to each other.”
Hyun Bin also said, “I learned and felt many things after acting alongside Hwang Jung Min for this work. As an actor, I learned from him on the filming set”, showing his respect for the senior actor. He continued, “I’ve been acting in my own way for a long time, but after meeting Hwang Jung Min, I realized that there were still many things I couldn’t do”, adding “I said this to Hwang Jung Min before. I hope we can work together again. I also told the senior that I wanted to show him the energy and vision that I learned from him on the set”.
Director Im Soon Rye also received positive influences front eh two actors, especially Hwang Jung Min, whom he worked with in “Waikiki Brothers”. Director Im said, “It was my first time filming an action scene and a bomb scene. Hwang Jung Min had filmed such kinds of movies many times before, he gave me practical and helpful ideas, such as how to set the camera angles, like a member of the special effect team”, adding “Hyun Bin also has many experiences in action scenes and he also helped me a lot”.
The characters played by Hwang Jung Min and Hyun Bin in the film are completely opposite in the way they rescue hostages. It is different to prioritize between rationale and practicality. In fact, Hyun Bin said, “I don’t think I’ve ever thought about it in depth. If I have to choose between the two, it’s justification. I have lived with a little more importance on rationale in many ways, even when I work.”
Hwang Jung Min also chose justification. He said, “As an actor, the most important thing is the relationship between people rather than rationale. The medium of film itself is to communicate with the audience through the screen, but I think it is the relationship and communication between humans. I don’t think practicality matters.”
“The Point Men” premieres on January 18th.
