The late Lee Sun-kyun is laid to rest today (Dec 29th) “Cremation + enshrinement of remains after private leaving ceremony”
Lee Sun-kyun’s leaving ceremony will be held privately at Seoul National University Hospital Funeral Hall in Jongno-gu, Seoul, with only family and colleagues in attendance.
Family members attending include his wife – actress Jeon Hye-jin, two sons and his siblings.
The cremation procedure will take place at Yeonhwajang Funeral Hall in Suwon-si, and the remains will be enshrined at Samsung Elysium, Gwangju, Gyeonggi.
Lee Sun-kyun‘s agency HODU&U Entertainment expressed deep gratitude for the condolences and announced that all funeral-related events will be conducted privately, urging everyone to mourn in their hearts.
The agency also expressed concern about the overwhelming and chaotic situation at the funeral hall due to YouTubers visiting day and night, emphasizing the difficulty of handling the situation.
Previously, in October, Lee Sun-kyun shocked the public when it was revealed that he was under investigation by the police for alleged drug use.
He underwent three rounds of investigations during his lifetime, and all drug tests, including preliminary tests and detailed examinations, came back negative. He consistently stated that he did not know the substance he had taken was drug and conveyed a sense of injustice.
On Dec 26th, it was revealed that he expressed his sense of injustice and requested a lie detector test through his lawyer. However, on Dec 27th, he was found dead in a car parked near Waryong Park in Jongno-gu, Seoul.
Lee Sun-kyun reportedly left a note expressing apologies to his family. The police believe he committed suicide and are examining the exact circumstances of his death.
With Lee Sun-kyun’s death, the police plan to conclude the investigation into his drug allegations as having no legal basis.
Meanwhile, Lee Sun-kyun debuted as an actor in 1999. However, he did not immediately gain recognition and spent a long time in anonymity. It was not until 2007, with MBC’s “White Tower” and “Coffee Prince”, that he began to gain recognition.
He quickly established himself as a leading actor with his attractive voice, unique way of speaking and perfect acting skills.
Especially in 2019, he became a global actor after winning the top prize at the U.S. Academy Awards for director Bong Joon-ho’s movie “Parasite”.
In January this year, SBS’s drama “Payback” starring him recorded around 10% viewership. In May, “Sleep” and “Project Silence” were both invited to the Cannes Film Festival.
