The Japanese version of “The Red Sleeve” poster draws attention for turning the drama into a bright rom-com

The Japanese version of “The Red Sleeve” poster shows off a completely different concept from the original.

As MBC’s “The Red Sleeve” was broadcast on satellite channels in Japan from April, the Japanese version of the drama’s poster, which is significantly different from the Korean poster, has been gaining attention.

The Japanese version of the poster shows the main characters of “The Red Sleeve”, Yi San (Lee Jun Ho) and Seong Deok Im (Lee Se Young) facing and hugging each other affectionately.

Yi San and Seong Deok Im stare at each other lovingly with pink petals flying around them, creating a romantic and dreamy atmosphere. In the bottom of the poster, the two sit opposite each other in a field, smiling and having a good time.

The drama’s title written on the poster is also pink. The bright colors emphasize the romance between Yi San and Seong Deok Im and make “The Red Sleeve” look like it is a romantic comedy.

This poster is strikingly different from the sentimental vibes shown through the Korean version of the poster, where Yi San and Seong Deok Im are not smiling nor facing each other. The overall atmosphere of the Korean poster feels sadder and heavier as it depicts the desperate love story between Yi San and Seong Deok Im.

Not only Korean viewers but also Japanese viewers were surprised by the Japanese version of “The Red Sleeve” poster. Some Japanese viewers even expressed their disappointment at the modified Japanese poster.

They left comments such as, “Please make it look more like the Korean poster”, “This is misleading and disrespectful to the drama”, and “The original genre of the drama is not shown at all.”
