“The Glory” Lim Ji Yeon talks about working with Song Hye Kyo and scene she worried about the most before filming
Actress Lim Ji Yeon had an interview with Wikitree at a cafe in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam-gu, Seoul on March 17th and talked about her most recent work – Netflix’s “The Glory”.
“The Glory” depicts the revenge meticulously prepared by a woman whose soul was broken due to school violence experiences she had during her childhood. In this drama, Lim Ji Yeon appeared in this drama as Park Yeon Jin, a weathercaster and a school violence perpetrator who left painful wounds that are more hurtful than nightmares on Moon Dong Eun (Song Hye Kyo).
During the interview, Lim Ji Yeon expressed her extraordinary affection for senior actress Song Hye Kyo. She said, “Song Hye Kyo is a person whom I love so much. As expected, I realized that I cannot underestimate her experience after working with her. She always made sure that not only herself but other junior actors could also fly high and show themselves together. I think everyone loves and respects Hye Kyo unnie in the same way.”
She continued, “During our first shoot, I approached her while thinking about how to make friends with her, but we became close very quickly without doing anything”, adding “The scene where I filmed together with other friends was chaotic. However, I learned many things from the scenes where I acted alongside (Hye Kyo) unnie. I’m so thankful for that”, conveying her gratitude for Song Hye Kyo.
Playing Park Yeon Jin, the main perpetrator who tormented Moon Dong Eun, Lim Ji Yeon had to act many confrontation scenes with complicated emotions with other actors. Referring to the scene where Yeon Jin’s daughter Ye Sol (Oh Ji Yul) ran into Dong Eun at school as the one she was most worried about, Lim Ji Yeon confessed, “It was the first time I played a confrontation scene, and it must be a fiery and intense scene. I was very worried because it was shot before we got close to each other. I wasn’t used to the mood and hadn’t immersed myself in the character enough, so I went to the set with a sense of frustration and asked myself ‘Are we really filming this scene?’.”
Nevertheless, Lim Ji Yeon made great efforts not to let Yeon Jin be overshadowed by Dong Eun. Revealing a behind-the-scenes story, the actress said, “I didn’t want to lose, so was like ‘Oh, you’re here? You’re Ye Sol’s homeroom teacher? Go ahead and try’ and proceeded with the shoot with that atmosphere. I also had to show some inner confusion. I consulted with the director a lot because viewers had to feel satisfied by the actions and words by Dong Eun.”
