In “The Glory,” the scene which clearly exposes the bullies’ real characteristics is drawing attention on online communities.
The Netflix drama “The Glory,” a collaboration between writer Kim Eun Sook and actress Song Hye Kyo, is going viral. Since its release on Dec 30th, the show has quickly become a hot topic by climbing into the top five of worldwide charts despite having no global stars.
While many people are angry at the “school violence” portrayed in the series, there is a scene that is receiving attention as it shows the “order among the bullies.”
Park Yeon Jin and Lee Sa Ra, who came first, laugh hysterically at Choi Hye Jung, who was approaching them. Choi Hye Jung asks why they are laughing, and Lee Sa Ra asked back, “Did you buy a new dress?“
Choi Hye Jung proudly said, “Yes, my boyfriend. He thought of me when he went to Galleria.” She thought her friends thought her dress was pretty and looked good on her.
However, at that moment, the situation changes rapidly. Park Yeon Jin retorts, “Hye Jung, is Lee Sa Ra your boyfriend?” Lee Sa Ra asks if Choi Hye Jung is wearing her customer’s clothes. Park Yeon Jin then mocks that Choi Hye Jeong has good eyes.
Choi Hye Jeong feels humiliated. Lee Sa Ra approaches Choi Hye Jeong, who is wearing her dress, and sprinkles Febreeze on her. Lee Sa Ra says, “Choi Hye Jeong, get a hold of yourself. At that time, it’d have been you if it wasn’t for Moon Dong Eun.”
Park Yeon Jin throws a finishing blow to Choi Hye Jeong, who is trembling with fear, “Hye Jeong, why do you still let your mouth loose like that? We’re not high school students anymore. Can friendship be maintained purely with friendship now? Be careful with what you say in the future and don’t live outside of your means. Nod if you understand.”
Choi Hye Jeong gets frightened and nods. Park Yeon Jin leaves her seat as if she is satisfied. Choi Hye Jeong quickly tells Lee Sa Ra that she will wash her clothes and return them to her, but she only gets cursed at.
Viewers applauded this scene as the actresses’ acting clearly portrayed the ranks within the school bully group. Lim Ji Yeon and Kim Hieora’s performance is amazing, but some say that Cha Joo Young’s acting stands out the most.
Meanwhile, “The Glory” is a revenge drama written by writer Kim Eun Sook, who has been loved around the world for numerous hit works such as “Lovers in Paris”, “Secret Garden”, “Guardian: The Lonely and Great God” and “Mr. Sunshine”.
