According to several sources, the murder may be related to a dispute between Abby Choi and her former in-laws. It is known that even after her divorce, Abby Choi still provides for them and her two kids, even buying a house for them.

In 2016, Abby Choi “married” Chris Tam, whose family owns the Hong Kong chain restaurant TamJai Yunna Mixian, though they never registered their marriage. In 2022, she decided to sell the property where her former husband’s family is residing in, and move them to another accommodation, causing an argument.

Her father-in-law, Kwong Kau, who is a former police officer, strongly resisted Abby Choi’s decision. Thus, he is considered the main suspect of the model’s murder case.
