The famous Goo Jun Pyo by Lee Min Ho in “Boys Over Flowers” was almost handed over to another male idol-actor?

With both wealth and look, the actor was thought to be the perfect pick for the role.

“Boys Over Flowers” is a classic drama of the 2000s that shot many names to stardom, Lee Min Ho included. However, the casting for Goo Jun Pyo was intense. It was reported that Lee Min Ho almost did not get the role if Choi Siwon had accepted to join the project.

In an appearance on “Kiss the Radio,” MC Leeteuk revealed that Choi Siwon was offered the role of Goo Jun Pyo in “Boys Over Flowers,” long before Lee Min Ho was considered for the role. At the time the episode aired, Leeteuk jokingly said that Choi Siwon was stupid for not taking it.

Considering Choi Siwon’s background, it was no wonder that he drew the attention of the “Boys Over Flowers” production team. Born in 1986, Choi Siwon is an idol with an impressive family background, which belongs to the “elite” class. It is known that Choi Siwon’s father is the CEO of the famous pharmaceutical company Boryung Medience, and his mother is a high-ranking official in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs. In addition, the Choi family owns a significant amount of shares in Hyundai Department Store – one of the top 3 largest retail chains in South Korea.

Moreover, Choi Siwon has royal roots, as his father is a direct descendant of King Cheoljong, the 25th ruler of the Joseon Dynasty. Meanwhile, his mother is a descendant of King Hyojong, the 17th ruler of the Joseon Dynasty. Coupled with his bright, charming, and handsome appearance when he first entered the industry, Siwon was an ideal choice for the role of a rebellious and troublesome young master in “Boys Over Flowers”.

However, it was precisely because he was a young name in the music industry that Siwon decided to devote all his attention to Super Junior. His efforts eventually paid off, seeing that Super Junior became known across Asia, with various hit songs like “Sorry Sorry”, “Mr. Simple”, and so on.

On the other hand, the role of Goo Jun Pyo in “Boys Over Flowers” was passed through several famous actors before finally reaching Lee Min Ho. The role is now considered one of the most iconic from the Korean small screen, with “Boys Over Flowers” and Lee Min Ho alike becoming a huge sensation.
