A Chinese drama scriptwriter, who was accused of plagiarizing MBC drama “Dae Jang Geum,” has declared that he will make a female version of “Squid Game.”
A famous Chinese drama scriptwriter, who said Hanbok was “modeled after Chinese clothes“, once again made Korean fans angry by making an absurd new remark.
On the morning of Sep 22nd, famous drama scriptwriter and producer Yu Zheng announced that he would make a female version of “Squid Game” on his Weibo account, a Chinese SNS.
Since China cannot watch Netflix, he is expected to have streamed the show illegally. Yu Zheng said he is preparing for a new drama, saying, “The script is really interesting, it will be the historical drama version and the female version of ‘Squid Game’.”
He is copying the theme of another drama, and he is not even shy about it.
Yu Zheng also drew attention by saying that he has already conducted auditions with more than 100 actors going to the casting.
Yu Zheng’s name was widely known after creating dramas such as “Palace” and “Palace II,” but he is also a scriptwriter who has already gotten into plagiarism allegations several times in China.

Some Chinese people also strongly criticized the drama for copying Korean traditional outfits, but the screenwriter argued on SNS that, “Korea was a subordinate state of China during the Ming Dynasty” and “At that time, Korean clothes were modeled after the clothes of the Ming Dynasty.”
On the other hand, Netflix’s original series “Squid Game”, which the Chinese screenwriter announced that they will follow, depicts the story of desperate people who participated in a mysterious survival game with a prize of 45.6 billion won, risking their lives to become the ultimate winner.
Despite it having been a year since it came out, the K-drama still retains immense popularity.
Recently, at the 74th Emmy Awards, which was at Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, USA, director Hwang Dong-hyeok and actor Lee Jung-jae were awarded Best Director and Best Actor, respectively.
This is an extremely meaningful achievement, seeing that “Squid Game” is the first non-English-speaking work to win these awards.
As the “Squid Game” syndrome continues to prevail, director Hwang Dong-hyuk is currently working on a second season of “Squid Game ” with the goal of releasing it in 2024.
