The career of “True Beauty” cast after 1 year: Cha Eun Woo exploded with fame, Moon Ga Young may be struggling?

The K-drama “True Beauty” boosted its cast to stardom, but have they been able to maintain such popularity?

While “True Beauty” did not manage to record impressive viewership ratings as it aired, the series has got massive impact on international grounds, turning many cast members into popular stars.

Now that it has been over a year since “True Beauty” ends, netizens discussed the current careers of major cast members.

Cha Eun Woo

Born in 1997, Cha Eun Woo assumed the role of male lead Lee Su Ho in “True Beauty”, and is the most successful actor among the cast. With his outstanding visuals, Cha Eun Woo became a superstar after the K-drama ended, and earned numerous commercial deals and acting offers. While Cha Eun Woo still received criticism for “inadequate” acting, even hateful netizens have to admit that the idol-actor’s visuals are out of this world.

In 2022, Cha Eun Woo has plans for 2 projects – the K-drama “Island”, where he will co-star alongside Kim Nam Gil and Lee Da Hee, and the cinematic work “Decibel”, where he will collaborate with Kim Rae Won and Lee Jong Suk. If Cha Eun Woo can improve his acting further, then he’d undoubtedly be a top face in the Korean acting industry.

Moon Ga Young

Having slowly gained attention through various roles, Moon Ga Young truly exploded as the female lead Im Joo Kyung of “True Beauty”. In 2022, the actress cameo-ed in the tvN series “Shooting Stars”, before making her official return with “Link: Eat, Love, Kill”, alongside Yeo Jin Goo. However, while “Link: Eat, Love, Kill” was gripping with a unique plot, and Moon Ga Young boasted spectacular visuals and acting in this K-drama, the series isn’t exactly faring well.

In particular, the viewership rating of “Link: Eat, Love, Kill” peaked at 3%, before dropping to a meager 1% in the latest episode. It also attracted little discussion on international grounds, and saw little prospects of improvement in popularity. It seems that “Link: Eat, Love, Kill” will be yet another role of Moon Ga Young that received little commercial success.

Hwang In Yeop

Hwang In Yeop basically became popular overnight, after starring as the second male lead of “True Beauty”. In 2022 alone, the actor has appeared in 2 dramas, including the Netflix musical series “The Sound of Magic”, and the ongoing SBS drama “Why Her?”. “The Sound of Magic”, while not gaining much attention, had Hwang In Yeop highly praised for his emotional acting and natural portrayal. Meanwhile, “Why Her?” is a huge success with ratings surpassing 10%, but Hwang In Yeop’s acting was harshly criticized there.

In particular, while “Why Her” is topping all charts and ruling over its time slot, netizens only focused on the female lead played by Seo Hyun Jin, while ignoring Hwang In Yeop. The actor was mocked as “ugly” and “stiff”, while his character is deemed as “useless” to the plot. It seems that Hwang In Yeop will need to prove himself further in later works .

Park Yoo Na

Despite having both visuals and acting skills, Park Yoo Na hasn’t taken full advantage of the hype she earned from “True Beauty”. In particular, the actress has so far only starred in Disney+’s original series “Rookie Cops”, playing a minor role.
