The actress who beat Jeon Ji-hyun and Song Hye-kyo to top the popularity chart for 6 consecutive weeks

With her great performance in MBC’s weekend drama “The Red Sleeve” Lee Se-young beat Jeon Ji-hyun and Song Hye-kyo for six consecutive weeks on the hot topics chart.

“The Red Sleeve” has been the talk of the town for the past 8 weeks. Its last episode aired on January 1st ended successfully, racing the highest average viewership of 17.4% and an 18.1% real-time highest rating.

Lee Se-young top the popularity chart for 6 consecutive weeks

Apart from the Life-time Achievement Award earned by Lee Deok-hwa, who played King Yeongjo, “The Red Sleeve” also won several other awards, such as Best Supporting Actress, Best Writer, and Drama of the Year, at the 2021 MBC Drama Awards held last year on Dec 31st.

In addition, not only winning the Best Couple Award together, Lee Se-young and Lee Jun-ho also achieved the Top Excellence Award for Actress and Actor, respectively. Lee Se-young confessed that she did realize the great popularity of the drama as the elderly around recognized her and asked, “Aren’t you Deok-im?”.

Appearing on the entertainment program “Radio Star” in November last year before “The Red Sleeve” was aired to promote the drama, Lee Jun-ho promised that he would wear the royal robe and dance to 2PM’s hit song “My House” on the stage of “Radio Star” if the ratings exceeded 15%.

Lee Se-young also pledged to do the famous Beo Deu Ri’s “Jintobaegi” janggu (a drum in traditional Korean music) performance, but fans and people around opposed to the idea… Eventually, she said she would compromise and set a new promise of dancing to “My House” in the court lady costume.

Thanks to huge love from K-Drama fans, “The Red Sleeve” easily exceeded the rating target. Therefore, the two actors have confirmed to adjust schedules for their appearance on “Radio Star” together to keep their promise.

MBC also pledged to reward all actors and staff with an overseas trip. Although Lee Se-young can’t join the trip, she is still happy and hopes that everyone will enjoy the journey to the fullest.
