teach you a lesson netflix global no1

According to global OTT ranking platform FlixPatrol on June 12 (local time), Netflix original series Teach You a Lesson ranked first among all global TV shows on the streaming platform.

The drama has reportedly topped Netflix’s daily Top 10 TV series chart in 45 countries worldwide, including Asian nations such as South Korea, India, Japan, and Bangladesh, as well as regions in South America like Brazil and Middle Eastern countries including Qatar, Lebanon, and Türkiye. Thanks to its massive global popularity, the series earned a total score of 795 points, securing the No.1 spot on Netflix’s worldwide TV rankings.

Teach You a Lesson tells the story of the fictional Educational Rights Protection Bureau, an organization established to defend South Korea’s collapsing educational system and restore teachers’ authority in schools overwhelmed by problematic students, teachers, and parents. The 10-episode series was fully released on June 5 and has since generated strong buzz among viewers.

Before its release, however, the drama faced significant controversy. Adapted from the webtoon of the same name, Teach You a Lesson sparked concern due to criticism surrounding the original source material, which had previously been accused of racial discrimination, misogyny, and excessive violence. The webtoon was even suspended overseas following backlash. In South Korea, one teachers’ organization reportedly staged protests opposing the production. During the early stages of casting, actor Kim Nam Gil was also rumored to be the first choice for the lead role before ultimately declining the offer.

Despite initial skepticism, Teach You a Lesson, starring Kim Mu Yeol after the lead role was recast, is now receiving praise for successfully adapting the original material while toning down its more controversial elements. The drama has been widely praised for transforming the story into a more balanced and engaging series, helping it resonate with audiences both domestically and internationally.

With its explosive rise on Netflix and growing global discussion, industry watchers are now closely following whether Teach You a Lesson can maintain its momentum as one of 2026’s biggest K-drama success stories.
